We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Apprentice IT Support Technician to join our IT team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone eager to start a career in IT and gain hands-on experience while studying towards a nationally recognised IT qualification.

The apprentice will be working in the IT Service and Operations department, which manages the infrastructure and data platforms that underpin UCL’s central IT services, including data centres, cloud compute and storage platforms, networks, telephony, communications and collaboration and enterprise applications.

You will be part of UCL's Centre for Advanced Research Computing (ARC). You will join the community of staff scientists and research technology professionals delivering the services and systems which make data and compute-intensive research possible.  You will work within your team to support a wide portfolio of responsibilities.

The broad purpose of the Digital and Technology Solution Professional (DTSP) is to evaluate, initiate, create and support business solutions using digital technology. This role will offer insights into one or more software integration technologies, such as: Mulesoft, WebSphere, Oracle, WebMethods, Talend, Tibco and Boomi.

You will work with experienced staff in our Technology department. The program provides an excellent grounding for a long-term career within financial technology. You may work on a range of applications such as enterprise risk management systems, artificial intelligence, low-latency trading infrastructure, data science and data engineering.

You will support the End User Services team by assisting end user services, desktop support and customer support. This role provides an opportunity to gain hands on experience and foundational skills within IT services like hardware and software troubleshooting and desktop support, offering valuable exposure to real-world IT environments.

You will be joining us on an 20-month programme focused on developing your data skills and business acumen. You will be working towards your Data Analyst (level 4) qualification. You will have the chance to learn through live interactive workshops lead by Data Scientists, via tailored online learning. You will also have a dedicated Data Mentor.

The Apprentice Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the smooth running and stability of various systems across the business spanning front and back office. This will include monitoring critical systems, anticipating and resolving issues as they arise and thinking of ways of reducing common problems.

We are looking for someone who has a keen eye for detail, is comfortable talking with people from all backgrounds and walks of life and keen to develop their administrative and customer service skills.

In this role, you’ll work closely with the Head of Infrastructure and the wider IT team to help maintain and support the desktops, servers, and network systems that keep their business running smoothly. You’ll be part of a small, collaborative team providing first-line support across the organisation.
